It's just a label I dreamt up for 'next' / 'latest' / 'bleeding edge', as like 
a pilot TV program or a pilot science experiment.

The pilot term seemed sort of succinct and appropriate for software with 
navigational aspects...

To my mind every git master HEAD update(s) should be near to being a user 
'stable' release as possible.

Thus the formal tag 1.1 is the nearest.

A 1.2 release is imminent.
