Having looked into this a bit more thoroughly I can't see any thing wrong with
the Viking code, the file name is given back from the Gtk Code. Thus it's
either a fault in Vikings usage of Gtk Recent Files, or a problem in gtk.

The working Debian version is linked against 'libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.8' which
is presumably Gtk 2.24.8

Not working Ubuntu version is linked against 'libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.6' which
is presumably Gtk 2.24.6

Looking at http://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/log/?h=gtk-2-24, I don't see
anything obvious but there has been 'Recent File' changes (more for the Open
Dialog) rather than the file list per application.

Hopefully when Ubuntu updates, the newer Gtk might fix it.
