I have just tried:-

    ./configure --with-x --with-screen=X11 --with-freetype-config 
--enable-fontsets --with-perl

... and it fails (after compiling quite a lot) with:-

    make: *** No rule to make target 'x11fancy.c', needed by 'x11fancy.o'.  
Stop.
