     I cannot reproduce this.  I tried copying the character using yl
(in Normal mode) and also by selecting with the mouse (in a
gnome-terminal, not having an xterm handy).

I tried it in gnome-terminal now as well.  It works.  It seems to be a
problem with Vim inside xterm (or the other way around, I suppose is
also possible).

Hm...I just tried doing this outside of Vim (inserting an extended
character in Zsh and then trying to copy-paste it there).  It doesn't
work there either.  So it seems to be a problem with xterm, not Vim.
