Oops...sorry. I pressed send button too early. I was also facing the problem with same distro, same vim as the OP. But with the recent update of the plugin (I use Vundle for that), the problem is solved. I am using 'gerw/vim-latex-suite' which is "This repo contains an improved version of latex-suite ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/vim-latex/)" Hope this helps.
