Vim 7 slows down when highlighting cursor line

Hi,

When I enable cursor line highlighting with ":set cul" and
I have syntax enabled, scrolling (j,k,l,h) becomes very slow,
especially for some file types (xml, ruby, ...)  Is it expected.
