Are you using GTK? There is a bug in GTK that prevent this from
working when you release the right mouse button before the menu is
displayed. The strange thing is that you can select an entry without a
problem, but GTK then doesn't send an event to Vim.
Try pressing the right mouse button and keeping it pressed until the
menu appears.
I have not found a way to work around this problem. Vim simply doesn't
get the event.
