A little while ago, I asked: 

  > I could not find the command to open a buffer in its own tab --
  > what is it?  (Somewhat like :sbuffer <partial> splits the window
  > and opens the buffer whose name uniquely matches <partial>).

  Found it -- use :tab to modify the command.
