Hi all,

Myself (David Terei) and Nageshwar M. have been working on a Vim plugin for
Eclipse as Part of Google Summer of Code and the time has come to announce
the fruits of our labour I guess you could say.

The project aims to allow you to use Vim easily within Eclipse as well as
extending Vim itself to be able to make use of the some of the features of
Eclipse. We have a website which contains more information:

http://code.google.com/p/eeedit/

You can also follow the links from here to download the plugin as well as
follow instructions on how to get up and running with it.

This project is in its very early stages, so far Vim functions pretty much
as an external editor (although there's more then this going on behind the
scenes). You can however if you're lucky enough to be on Linux and using a
GTK2 build of Vim embed it into Eclipse. There is a patch under review by
Bram for enabling support for this under Windows.

There are a few rough edges with the most noticeable being that the Eclipse
Error log with fill up with invalid thread access complaints. Also some
issues with the swap file being left behind on correct shutdowns of Vim. We
haven't encountered any data loss, but please tread carefully as we
defiantly make no guarantee about this at this stage sorry.

We have a mailing list setup through Google groups:

http://groups.google.com/group/eeedit-dev

Feel free to join and ask us any questions you have, suggestions,
complaints...

Best Regards,
David Terei
