To unpack a .tar.bz2 archive, "canonical" ways are:
(a) bunzip2 archive.tar.bz2 ; tar -xvf archive.tar
or
(b) tar -jxvf archive.tar.bz2
The -v (verbose) is optional; I use it to "see" the list of unpacked file names.
