For anyone interested, Ciaran McCreesh has another system which allows you to enter a whitelist of allowed options, and the plugin manually sets those options only (i.e. you run with 'modeline' off): http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1876 I can't help myself ... whenever someone mentions modelines, I'm going to mention that I hate documents that may execute code!
