Well, it's not just the implementation, it has to be maintained as  
well. And the syntax for floats is different than in any other  
language I've ever seen. In most cases, you can just as well call some  
scripting language (as you say yourself).

There probably already is a currency conversion lib available in  
python. Chances are, in vim there's none.
