I have quite a number of windows (22 of them, but the symptom ought to
be reproducible with fewer), all horizontally split (i.e. one above the
other) and I have the following possibly relevant settings:
winheight=99999
winminheight=0
cmdheight=2
cmdwinheight=7
The latter is the default but the others aren't. The result of the first
two is that the current window opens to full-size, reducing the others
to zero height ("Rolodex Vim").
When I hit q: q/ or q? in the bottom window, a 7-line command-line
window opens, all per spec.
However, when I hit q: q/ or q? in a window which is not at the bottom,
a much larger command-line window opens, reducing all other windows to
zero height. In fact I prefer this behaviour, so I'm going to set
'cmdwinheight' to a large value in my vimrc, but since it is "not per
spec", other people may prefer the opposite.
Best regards,
Tony.
