This would be very good used in conjuction with the 'textwidth' option. When I first used vim to write git commit messages I was taken by surprise by the automatic line wrapping as I hadn't come across it before. A line showing where this was going to happen would make it clearer what was going on. Would it make sense to be able to set both the textwidth and the guidecolumn together with one command?
