It's better, but not perfect.  Using ":help help.txt" and
":set column=8,78", I see that the cursor column at column 78
looks aligned, but the one at column 8 looks misaligned when
it goes over links.

I'm not even sure what's the expected behavior here:
should we expect the colorcolumn to be always at column 8
on the screen, even with concealed items?
