Something to do with your backup settings or your swap file settings
perhaps? Or maybe you have an undofile being saved on the remote disk
also?

See the :help entries for 'backup', 'backupcopy', 'backupdir',
'directory', 'swapfile', 'undofile', 'undodir'. Perhaps one or more of
these will help, but this is really just a guess.
