This may be specific to MacVim, but after applying this patch the screen redraws before I ever get to see the output from commands like :ver and :ls. That is, I start Vim (in GUI mode) and see the welcome message, type :ver, and instead of seeing the version message the window just clears (the welcome message disappears).
