Having recently dredged this topic up again - what is the current state
of plan? Are we happy we have a working model of how things will work
and are just awaiting time to write some code, or are there still
questions lingering about?

I'm just prompted by again another question in #vim on the subject:

----
(15:23) <plwert> I've mapped <M-PageDown> to gt and <M-PageUp> to gT,
yet all alt-pageup does is screw up the current line in strange ways.
(15:23) <plwert> my guess is this is a terminal issue, but I'm not
really sure how to fix this
(15:25) <LeoNerd> Yup. it is
(15:37) <plwert> what is the problem, though? Alt?
(15:37) <LeoNerd> Hrm?
(15:38) <LeoNerd> The problem is Vim doesn't recognise it. It needs to
  be taught
(15:38) <LeoNerd> :set or map
(15:40) <graywh> but :set <PageDown>=^[[6;*~ should be sufficient
...
(15:43) <plwert> it's still capitalising the three letters under the
  cursor
(15:43) <plwert> (with set <PageDown>=^[[6;*~ and map <M-PageDown> gt)
(15:43) <LeoNerd> Not sure how well * is implemented, and how it works
(15:43) <LeoNerd> That is an escape ^[ yes, not literal caret
  openbracket
----

I'm hoping for a day when such questions are no longer required; when
things will Just Work without any intervention. I know how technically
easily it is possible; we just need to find the way that is politically
acceptable by all parties...
