The help says:
Note that using "\&" works the same as using "\@=": "foo\&.." is the
same as "\(foo\)\@=..". But using "\&" is easier, you don't need the
braces.
However, if you look for "foo\&", it only matches "f" and not "foo". Tried
with both re=1 and re=2.
