Well rats, I thought I could help here, because I'm compiling on Solaris 9. But 
it compiles fine on my system, even when I do "normal" features like you did 
instead of "huge" with python like I did.

But a google search eventually led to this for compiling an unrelated program:

Back to Vim, looking through the options in src/auto/configure, you might try 
doing:

  ./configure --disable-acl

I'm not sure exactly what behavior that will strip out, but it might compile at 
least.
