Problem: vim does not open local directory.
Steps to reproduce:
1. run
$ vim /etc/
Expected results:
use netrw plug-in to list directory content.
Actual results:
1. show error message
"/etc/" Illegal file name
2. buffer remains empty.
I'm unable to duplicate your problem. I don't like changing the
s:vimentered logic -- causes problems, that's why its there.
The "/etc" illegal file name message is issued by vim, and can't be
worked around.
Please run the internal debugger (:he netrw-debug) and send me a trace.
Also: what o/s are you using and what settings?

C Campbell
