Wow, compiling Vim was an exercise in patience but now I have Vim 7.4.169 running on Linux on an Athlon XP 2500+ and the plugin runs smoothly. I don't have access to any older computers. Hope this suffices. BTW I wonder why the plugin I downloaded from Gmail was with DOS line endings while I sent it to the mailing list with Unix ones.
