I've attached an outline AppData file for gVim which can be used in the KDE and GNOME software centers. We'd love to showcase Vim as a featured application, but without the extra descriptions and screenshots we can't yet. See http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/appdata/ for more details about AppData and AppStream. I'm happy for you to modify the description as much as you like; most of it has been taken from your project homepage. Someone will need to take 16:9 screenshots showing vim to the best of its abilities (I'm not a vim power user -- yet) and host them online, although please ask for advice if you need to.
AppData files just need to be included upstream in git, and then installed (maybe just for Linux) in /usr/share/appdata at install time, just like the gvim.desktop file. After that everything happens magically as the distro packages the upstream tarball and the AppData file is read, the information extracted and added to the software center metadata. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks! Richard -- -- You received this message from the "vim_dev" maillist. Do not top-post!
