Using a plugin that does a directory crawl up using finddir() on a slow networked filesystem vim took many minutes to open a file.
Running strace on the process I see calls to the finddir() name with each extension in my suffixesadd. This is explicitly mentioned behavior for findfile() but doesn't seem to make sense for finddir() (or at least it might be documented).
