gcc 4.9.2 still gives a warning:

ops.c: In function ‘do_addsub’:
ops.c:5406:10: warning: ‘startcol’ may be used uninitialized in this function 
[-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
     int  startcol;
          ^
AFAICT it's not a problem, but I'm not surprised gcc can't figure that out.
