It's only on the evening of the last Sunday of August that I succeeded
to get an Internet connection again. (Before that, my new computer
worked perfectly except that it had no Internet.) (After a disk crash,
I could of course not get at my former configuration so I had to
reinstall the OS from scratch.) I still haven't found out how to read
my mail by POP, only webmail works so far, and I don't like it. In
particular, with gmail webmail it isn't obvious how to reply below the
quote. I _can_ read NNTP newsgroups in the same client (SeaMonkey
Mail, the "mail & news" part of what used to be the Mozilla Suite).

Once I was connected again, I updated the OS (openSUSE 13.2 DVD burned
begin November 2014, the next release will be 42.1, no kidding, after
the All Saints holiday) and found updates to more than 3000 packages.
I still have more than 8000 messages sitting in my inbox (and I get
more every day, most of them from [email protected]; almost
no spam, Gmail filters do a good job of diverting that to a "spam box"
where I can see them (and fetch back the rare false positive) but
which is not my Inbox.

It's good to meet you all again.

Best regards,
Tony.
