Maybe your runtime files aren't up to date? I'm running 7.4.946.
$ find /usr/local/share/vim/ -name json.vim
/usr/local/share/vim/vim74/ftplugin/json.vim
/usr/local/share/vim/vim74/indent/json.vim
/usr/local/share/vim/vim74/syntax/json.vim
The Last Change date in those files is July/August 2014.
