Yes, that's true. However, Vim is following Vi, and I had to add new
features and commands in the space that was left over.  With git we got
a new tool, there was a great chance to make it "right".  Unfortunately
not much attention was given to making it work in a user friendly way,
even though there were many examples of version control commands at the
time.  Git is very much designed around the functionality, not around
the user.  So now we have lots of questions about how to do something,
and then getting lots of different answers, where it's hard to decide
which is the right answer.  And the manual pages are full of buzz words,
that doesn't help either.
