I get the following when I apply latex to the file containing the above
example:

baker01.tex|3 error| Undefined control sequence. \newcolumntype
{R}{>{$}r<{$}}
baker01.tex|3 error| Missing \begin{document}.
baker01.tex|3 error| Extra }, or forgotten $. <recently read> }
\newcolumntype{R}{>{$} r<{$}}
baker01.tex|3 error| Missing } inserted. <inserted text>  }
\newcolumntype{R}{>{$}r<{$ }}        

Obviously LaTeX doesn't like this control sequence (pdftex,
3.141592-1.40.3-2.2).  Furthermore, I've seen \newcolumntype mentioned
in conjunction with several packages, including array and tabularx.
