It is the second. My original xdiff implementation that worked on files,
does not show that behaviour (also, I believe gits diff algorithm
explicitly routes everything through xdiff if --text argument is given).
I looked into diff_write_buffer(), but cannot find anything suspicious.
Could it be an encoding issue? Or perhaps some NULs in the input? I am
not sure...
