Hadn't seen that the [^(] was added after the \>. That's clever. The next line starts with a space followed by a tab. My patch took care of that but I should have mentioned it more explicitly.
Line-continuation betwen "function" and the function name makes % not work — the marginal case I already mentioned. Thanks!
