You don't mention what option values you use, but you should be able to
make it work by:
        include the "n" flag in 'formatoptions'
        Adjust the 'formatlistpat' option, e.g. to use a list with "+":
                set formatlistpat=^\\s*\\(\\d\\+[\\]:.)}\\t\ ]\\\\|+\\)\\s*
