Please provide more information.  What is $TERM set to?
What terminfo/termcap are you using?  What version of nano and kitty?

The problem really appears to be caused by Kitty having a different
keyboard protocol setting for the main and alternate screens.  I'm not
aware of any other terminal having that.  So that's the root cause of
the prolem.  No application is prepared for dealing with it.

Still, this version of Kitty exists and is being used, so we'll probably
have to do extra work to deal with this weird terminal...  And a
thousand other applications as well (including nano, apparently).
