A4 or letter paper, vim defaults to A4 which is a touch longer.....

depending on your printer settings it can scale the page and whatnot.

adobe reader is aggressive about pre scaling the pages to fit, apple  
has a prints to size by default


both have benefits and drawbacks.    i don't like it when adobe scales  
a 1:1 drawing I got from a letter sized pdf by 98%  to cause me grief  
in matching dimensions.

yet i dislike A4 pages not scaling down....
