Thanks for the explanation Bjorn,  and yes, I too have quick start on.
I hadn't thought about the .viminfo file being one of those files not
re-read.
As you pointed out, keeping that up to date and in some sort of sensible
order seems a thorny issue.
For me it's a simple solution - I'll turn off quickstart :-)
My habits make that history file more important.
