It also looks like it is a problem with the Terminal.app. I have been triggering the issue when remotely connecting to an HPC. At times, I could be editing a file using vim (remotely) in another machine via ssh and my terminal would suddenly disappear. If it were vim, I would expect that I would not experience it working remotely.
