Yes, it does. Uses a Bonobo Activation Service to avoid forking. A friend of mine wrote a libvte terminal emulator (more or less like gnome-terminal, but with less dependencies) called Sakura and we are working right now in adding the same kind of behaviour to it, only using DBus instead of Bonobo.
