In any case, the Ctrl-D at line 640 of various.txt shouldn't be used as 
a hotlink. ":help CTRL-D" will bring you to the help for Normal-mode 
Ctrl-D, but this paragraph is about Command-line-mode Ctrl-D. If you 
want to know what this particular Ctrl-D is about, don't double-click 
it, don't hit Ctrl-] on it, just type

        :h c_CTRL-D

and _that_ will bring you to the right tag.

So the period can remain where it was, with no space before it.
