I've put colorscheme elflord set background=dark inside my vimrc and (nearly) everything works as advertised now. I say "nearly" because every time I switch between screen-windows and back to VIM, the underline-formatting gets lost. Italicize, bold and color seem to work no matter what. But if I want to see the underlined text again, I have to ctrl-f or ctrl-b. Something having to do with the terminal getting redrawn? I have no clue.
