Well, in French we say: "faute de grives on mange des merles" (for lack
of thrushes one eats blackbirds), and what's the Russian expression
again? Ah yes: "На безрыбье и рак рыба" (when there's no fish, even a
crayfish is a fish). If all solutions are imperfect, use whatever suits
you least badly.
