The 'showcmd' option defaults to off on Unix and in 'compatible' mode,
to on in 'nocompatible' mode except on Unix-like platforms. However, if
your vimrc sources the vimrc_example.vim, _that_ sets the 'showcmd'
option, even on Unix.
