It may or may not be possible, but it is not necessarily recommended.

As John Little said, sending Alt+BS to Vim may work in some OSes and not 
in others; or in a single OS it may work in gvim but not in Console Vim; 
and even in Console Vim it may work or not work depending on the 
underlying terminal.

OTOH, Ctrl+w (the standard Vim command to do the same thing) can be 
recognized practically everywhere, it is the same number of keystrokes, 
and (unlike Alt+BS on any keyboard with an AltGr key) you can even type 
it with one hand.
