Just because something *can* be done doesn't mean it *should* be done.
Vim works perfectly well at editing text files using monospaced fonts.
Why put in the programming effort (which is probably not
inconsiderable) to support proportional fonts, when that same effort
could be directed at providing more useful features and / or fixing any
bugs in the existing codebase?
