Perhaps slightly more elegant is:

  exe printf('hi Normal gui=%s guifg=%s guibg=%s', s:text_style,
s:text_fg, s:text_bg)

Depending on your personal sensibilities, that might be more readable,
since it doesn't require so many potentially hard to read .s and 's.
