- Windows I suppose? and which version?
- Install from where? ( www.vim.org ? cream.sourceforge.net ? own-compiled from source ? Other, and what ? )

This line is inside the function which generates the "Edit => File Settings => File Format..." pop-up menu; that menu works for me and says:

I think that the error you get might be due to a missing or corrupt menu translations file.

Solution I: To get menus and messages in English, add to the very top of your vimrc

        if has('unix')
                language messages C
        else
                language messages en
        endif

Since the English texts are compiled into Vim they should appear with no problem.

Solution II: To suppress menus completely (and prevent sourcing menu.vim), add to the very top of your vimrc

        set go-=m go+=M

Solution III: To fix the problem and get menus in your national language: I don't have enough data to answer this one. Please answer the two questions at the top of this reply, and also:
- In which language do you want the menus and messages to be displayed?
- If you start Vim by typing the following at the cmd.exe prompt:

        C:
        cd "\Documents and Settings\Alexander Orman\Desktop\vim\vim72"
        gvim.exe -cmd "set go-=m go+=M" -u NONE -N -c "lang | set enc?"

what message appears at the bottom of the gvim screen after startup? If you don't see any, repeat the

        :lang | set enc?

command. The parts of the reply which interest me most are the values of LC_CTYPE, LC_MESSAGES and encoding

Best regards,
Tony.

Real programmers don't draw flowcharts. Flowcharts are, after all, the
illiterate's form of documentation. Cavemen drew flowcharts; look how
much good it did them.
