I am editing a long document with many { } pairs and some spurious
entries of either { or }. I want to click on one member of the pair and have
the other highlighted. This works fine.

But when I click on a spurious } Gvim switches to visual mode and if I
delete it I am likely to delete a whole block of text. I don't use visual
mode for this project. I need a command to prohibit Gvim from switching to
visual mode.
Just map the leftmouse click to something innocuous; for example,

:noremap <leftmouse> vv
:noremap <2-leftmouse> vv

I included 2-leftmouse as it takes me a double-click to select the region.
