I tried it out, but a symbolic link is still represented as a
directory, and selecting it gives me:

"
============================================================================
" Netrw Directory Listing
(netrw v141e)
"   ftp://s...@penudviu01/udv/sys/csl/bin/csls_anf_mail_bestand_prmakt.sh/
"   Sorted by      name
"   Sort sequence: [\/]$,\.h$,\.c$,\.cpp$,*,\.o$,\.obj$,\.info$,\.swp$,
\.bak$,\~$
"   Hiding:        ^\..*
"   Quick Help: <F1>:help  -:go up dir  D:delete  R:rename  s:sort-by
x:exec

bin/
udv/
Can't change directory to udv/sys/csl/bin/
csls_anf_mail_bestand_prmakt.sh/: Not a directory
