Well, if you've got sudo and apt then what you really wanted was sudo apt-get build-dep vim-gtk Takes the guesswork out of it. You didn't say what OS you had, and I had the impression that you couldn't su, or I would have given the pearl earlier. Anyone know the yum (or whatever) equivalent for Red Hat derived distros?
