Vim 7.2 here on the Mac. I do reproduce the "problem" here (and I say
"problem" because I am reasonably confident that your experience shouldnt be
any different. If it is, however, you could let us know again), but hey,
take note that the message is actually displayed - just that it is then
quick covered up by the "-- INSERT --" message.

How to know this: Once you get to the top after your Ctrl-o n, look at your
message area - and *hit Ctrl-o WITHOUT hitting the n*. Do you see that
'search hit BOTTOM, ...' message?
