The cursor is left at the start of the yanked region in either
case.  You can test this by jumping to the start or end of the
yanked region via:

  `[     Move to start of most recent yank or change.
  `]     Move to end of most recent yank or change.

When yanking "backwards" toward the beginning of a word, `[ is
set to the start of the word; when yanking "forward" toward the
end of a word (with yw or ye), `[ is the original cursor
location.
